Helicopter Hoist Operator

The objective of the Helicopter Hoist Operator-Type Conversion course is to provide the Helicopter Hoist Operator (HHO) with a consistent training based on the procedures to be applied on an aircraft with or without Autopilot SAR mode.

This document describes programs of Initial or Conversion to Type (CTT) onshore hoist operations training courses for HHO.

The Initial training course aims at delivering the mission capability. We refer to the Conversion to Type course when trainees are already mission capable on another type of helicopter and need to be trained on a new helicopter for the onshore hoist mission.

These programs are valid for any aircraft. When the aircraft is fitted with the AFCS hover mode the use of this mode is included with no additional training when applicable.


Important note: This course can be associated with our SAR Systems Training course of the Pilot Training section.

GENERAL INFORMATION

PREQUESITES

Initial training

HHO shall be familiar with the considered aircraft. They shall have attended at least a specific HHO familiarization course. In addition, they shall:

  • Hold a certificate of safety-rescue or a certificate of safety training (or equivalent)

  • Hold a current valid medical certificate, appropriate to the privileges of crew members.


    •

    Conversion to type

    In order to join the conversion to type course, trainees (HHO) shall
  • Be hoist operations qualified on another type of helicopter
  • have performed at least one hoist operation mission in the last 90 days including 8 hoist cycles and with at least one emergency procedure

  • Hold a valid type rating on the corresponding type of aircraft


    • AND

  • Be capable of reading and understanding the official maintenance documentation and Flight Manual

  • Have the ability to write and communicate in comprehensive English, to prevent any misunderstandings.

    CERTIFICATE

    Maintenance Check Flight

    The Maintenance Check Flight course provides knowledge and proficiency to perform technical flight with safety and efficiency, in accordance with the Airbus Helicopters maintenance manual and flight manual.
    Important note: This course can be associated with our Maintenance Check Flight course for pilots.

  • Be capable of reading and understanding the official maintenance documentation, and have the ability to write and communicate in comprehensive English, to prevent any misunderstandings.
